Firefighters for a Day |
Let children get a glimpse of one day in the life of a firefighter. Invite a group of youngsters to shadow the firefighters at your fire station. Have the kids help wash a fire truck, try on gear and hold a lower-pressure water hose. If you have access to a smokehouse (a portable room that fills with smoke), hold a demonstration of what its like to maneuver around in the smoke.Send the children home with Junior Firefighter Hats and Junior Firefighter Badge Stickers On-A-Roll as reminders of the trip. |

Plan early for Fire Prevention Week in October, consider reaching a wider audience by combining fire prevention education with the fun activities of Oktoberfest. Reserve a table at your towns annual Oktoberfest, or, if there isnt one scheduled, join with other organizations to create one. For the adults, have a Fire Safety Information Center , which comes with 400 brochures. For the kids, have Fire Safety Educational Activity Packs to pass out. At your booth, sell Firefighter Auto Ribbon Magnets to raise funds so you can buy supplies next year.

Fire Buddies |
Assign a firefighter to each school in your area as that schools fire buddy. Kick off the program by having each fire buddy lead a school-wide assembly. The firefighter would present general fire prevention information and hand out Practice Fire Safety Every Day Temporary Tattoos. Then, once a month, have the fire buddies visit a few of their schools classes for a more thorough lesson. Provide Value Kits, available for different grade levels from K through 6, for your firefighters to give out in the classes. |

Use fire truck red as a theme for your next fire safety event. Ask guests to come dressed in red. Decorate with our red Fire Safety Balloons. Hand out Red Satin Ribbon Bracelets for everyone to wear. Have children draw red fire trucks, red firefighters hats and red fire extinguishers. For a treat, provide cherry-flavored Fire Safety Lollipops and serve red punch.

Birthday Visit |
Make birthday parties more exciting, educational and entertaining by arranging for firefighters to make special guest appearances. Recruit some of your firefighters for the task, then put an announcement in the local paper or pass out flyers to school kids. At the parties, have the guest firefighter teach important concepts like stop, drop and roll, get out and stay out and call 9-1-1. Reinforce these messages by giving out Fire Safety Switch Plate Stickers for the kids to take home. Then add to their fun by distributing Never Play with Fire Mini Flyers or Shoot for Fire Safety Every Day Mini Basketballs.
