Healthcare Food Service Week Ideas

Healthcare food service week

Healthcare food service week

Healthcare food service workers play an integral role in helping the people who use and work at their facilities stay well nourished and healthy. And National Healthcare Food Service Week is the perfect time to highlight the efforts and contributions of your food service staff. First celebrated by Illinois in 1985, Congress has since declared National Healthcare Food Service Week a national event that takes place each year during the first week of October.

Positive Promotions invites you to honor your employees during this week and boost morale with events and incentives. You’ll find that our thoughtful, affordable and useful products are great for expressing your gratitude and making staff members feel appreciated. Choose from our unique food services and dietary items–and use them, if you wish, with the following event ideas to help make your facility’s 2006 National Healthcare Food Service Week a success.

Family Tradition Healthcare food service week
Almost every family has at least one traditional recipe. At the beginning of National Healthcare Food Service Week have each employee bring in a recipe of one favorite family dish. Make copies of each recipe and create three-ring binder cookbooks for each employee. At the end of the week, when you give every employee a binder “cookbook,” also include our “A Taste For Cooking” Recipe Wall Calendar. Then send them home with a Mini Sharpie® With Lanyard.

Cultural Cooking Healthcare food service week
Teppanyaki chefs cook food on a large iron griddle and perform a small show–juggling utensils, flipping a shrimp into his or her shirt pocket, etc. Take your employees out to eat at a teppanyaki restaurant to see the skill and talents of the chefs and to enjoy good food. After everyone enjoys the show and meal, give each worker a Food & Nutrition Services Kitchen Multi Tool and an “I’m Appreciated” Velvet Bag Of Goodies full of chocolates to eat for dessert.

Taste The Difference Healthcare food service week
Set up a taste-testing station for employees and see who can tell the difference between selected foods and beverages. Pick edible items that look similar–diet soda vs. regular, cooked acorn squash vs. cooked pumpkin, and skim vs. whole milk–and put a small amount of each in a numbered bowl or cup. Have all employees taste each item, then write what they think each numbered food or drink is with our “I Make A Difference” Pen And Pencil Set . After everyone is done tasting, see how many correct choices there were and hand out “I Make A Difference” Lapel Pin Badge Holders to all participants, as well as Hershey’s Kisses® Mini Gift Totes to those who got the most right answers.

   Chili Cook-Off
Healthcare food service week
Spice up the week’s events by having each employee bring in a crock of his or her favorite chili. Have employees write down their recipes on index cards. Encourage staff members to taste everyone’s chili and exchange recipes. Give each participant a “Serving Up Care One Meal At A Time” Dietary Services Apron and a “Serving Up Care One Meal At A Time” 28-oz. Water Bottle to fill with water to wash down the hot chili.

Thoughts Of Appreciation Healthcare food service week
Honor those who work in the kitchen or cafeteria by having patients, residents, and staff in other departments sign a Food & Nutrition Services Greeting Card for each food service employee. When the cards are filled with signatures, hand them out to staff members. Add to your appreciation efforts by presenting food service staff with items from our Dietary Services Gift-A-Day Package throughout the week.

A Little Warmth Healthcare food service week
Take a few minutes from a hectic day to thank your employees for their hard work and to sip some tea. Give each staff member our Tea Time Canister Gift Set. Before they leave for the day, hand out Team Fleece Zip Pullovers to keep them warm in the upcoming winter months.

   Appreciation Tools At Your Fingertips
Healthcare food service week
Be ready to say thanks throughout the year, not just during National Healthcare Food Service Week. Keep recognition gifts on hand to use when someone goes above and beyond the call of duty or displays an outstanding attitude. Shining Star Spa Kits and Food & Nutrition Services Lanyards would be good items for your collection.
