As you know, on-the-job injuries are costly to employers, as well as to the employees who
get hurt. With this in mind, it’s in everyone’s best interest to encourage, reward and use safe
practices. National Safety Month in June serves as a perfect time to bring safety to the forefront of
workplace operations.
Positive Promotions has created a variety of cost-effective gifts, incentives and informational products
for our workers. Use them, along with the ideas provided below, to ensure that safety is a top
priority for you and your staff.

In The News |
Put your facility’s thoughts on safety in writing with a National Safety Month newsletter. It can be a simple page or two edition created by someone in your company with computer graphic skills. Include articles reminding employees of the ways to perform tasks safely and also highlight any safety-related news from your workplace (i.e., an article on new safety training that was held in the past year). You can also include safety-related quotes from your workers and from outside sources. Print out copies of your publication and distribute along with “The Safe Way Is The Right Way” or “Committed To Safety” Lapel Pins.

Got Water |

June is the perfect time to remind your employees to stay safe in the summer heat. One of the most crucial ways is by keeping hydrated. Hold a group discussion that emphasizes the importance of drinking plenty of water. Distribute Heat Stress Safety Pocket Pals, which include tips on preventing dehydration. Then go over the information in them together. In addition to the Pocket Pals, hand out “Beat the Heat” Water Bottles.

Give your National Safety Month a NASCAR theme with automotive-related decorations and gifts. Create signs that say things like “Everyone Wins With Safety” and “Safe Workers + A Safe Workplace =
A Winning Combination” to hang in the main lobby at work and in the break room. At the beginning of the month, present each employee with a “Safety Comes In First” Safety Cap that has a raffle ticket attached to it. Tell workers to hold onto their tickets for prizes throughout the month. Once or twice a week raffle off a 31-Piece Auto Emergency Kit.

Add some spice to your safety month activities with a Mexican Fiesta luncheon. Have a local Mexican restaurant or a catering service bring spicy Mexican dishes to your facility for lunch one day. Let workers know in advance so they don’t bring their lunches. Fill two or more “Take Safety Wherever You Go” Cooler Bag with enough “Safety Is A Hot Topic” Survival Kits for all employees to take. Also, have each person write down his or her name on a slip of paper and put it into a hat. Later that day, draw names from the hat and announce the winners of the Cooler Bag.

A Variety Of Flavors |
While your employees may have different tastes in music, hobbies and food, safety needs to be a primary interest to all of them. To keep everyone’s mind on safety, let workers select a safety-themed snack of their choice during an extra afternoon break during June. Have “We’re Nuts About Safety” Mini Gift Totes available for those who like salty foods. Also offer “Life Is Sweet When You Play It Safe” Candy Packs for people who prefer sweet foods.

Focus On First Aid |
Even with safety as a main priority, accidents can happen. Taking that into consideration, offer First Aid and CPR classes to employees at least twice a week during June. Require each employee to attend one of each and be flexible with work hours so they can participate. After employees complete the training, pass out Emergency And First Aid Handbooks and Deluxe First Aid Kits to help reinforce what was learned during the training.

Something Fishy |

Cast out your line in hopes of catching employees working safely. Let your employees know that throughout National Safety Month you’ll be monitoring their work extra closely. For each task you witness that’s performed safely. Whenever you witness an employee performing a task safely put that persons name in a jar. At the end of the month, hold a drawing for a free meal for two at a local seafood restaurant. Also draw names for “Caught Working Safely” Stainless Steel Travel Tumblers and “Caught Working Safely” Deluxe Lunch Bags.

Make The Right Calculations |
Working safely takes careful thought and consideration. For example, when a person has to carry a heavy load, he or she needs to ponder the safest way to do that without getting hurt. During National Safety Month, give employees gifts and informational products to remind them to calculate carefully before they make their moves. Hand out “Add Safety Into Every Task” Calculators and “Guide To Safe Lifting” Slideguides to all your workers whose jobs entail carrying heavy loads.
