   Introduce children to the adventure of reading with a “Camp Out at the Library” event. Hold it outside and set up “reading tents” with various types of books.     Promote A-MAZE-ing Books Summer reading
   Convert the children’s books section into a reading labyrinth. Use shelves and large poster boards to create a maze, with displays along the way highlighting different genres and popular books in each of them (e.g. Fantasy and Harry Potter books, Horror and Goosebumps books). Invite older children to explore the a-MAZE-ing world of reading by traveling through the maze and picking up books they’d like to check out.    World Wide Reading Summer reading
   Use your school’s Web site as a summer reading forum. Set up an interactive page kids can use to discuss books they’ve read. They can rate a book with 1-5 stars and write a brief review, similar to Amazon.com. Advertise your site with fliers and posters throughout the school before the end of the school year, or with postcards sent home.    Invite a local author to speak to children about fiction writing. Ask the author to help students start a story they can finish at home. Prizes can include Reading Is Cool Water Bottles, Catch the Summer Reading Wave Flyers, Reading Rocks! Dog Tags and Readers Are Leaders T-shirts.
   Golden Moments Summer reading
   Help kids strike gold at the library. Create a display showing a gold mine and mining carts made of construction paper. Write each participant’s name on a cart. As the children read their required books, their cart can move through the mine to reach a deposit of Golden Books® at the bottom.
