Nutrition, Health Fitness Awareness Ideas

nutrition and health

   Here’s To Your Heart
Show your workers that their health matters to you and your organization. Hold a luncheon featuring foods that are low in heart-damaging saturated fat, trans fat and cholesterol. Ask a professional to speak on preventing heart disease. Also bring in a chef to demonstrate heart-healthy cooking techniques. Give all luncheon attendees “Know Your Fats” Slideguides and “Healthy Heart Nutrition & Fitness” Guides to further educate them. nutrition and health

Fit As A Family nutrition and health
For proper health, children need at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day and adults need 30 minutes five or more days a week. Get the word out about this recommendation by holding a family fitness night. Tell participants to arrive in comfortable clothing and sneakers. Bring in fitness instructors from your local gym or parks and recreation program. Have them lead your families in simple exercises that can be done at home. When the workout is finished, raffle off “Exercise...It’s A Family Affair” Drawstring Backpacks . Then hand out “Fitness Is Fun” Silicone Bracelets to all attendees as a fitness reminder. Give some to the fitness instructors as well.

   Pyramid Play
nutrition and health
The information contained in the USDA’s Food Pyramid plan forms the basis of healthy eating. Help children understand the plan by working through the “Eat Smart: The New Food Pyramid And You” Educational Activities Book. To check what they’ve learned, play games with the information. For example, have the children list as many fruits and vegetables as they can in one minute, then have them separate out the vegetables from the fruits. Or have them list fruits for a minute, then vegetables for a minute. Reward everyone for participating with “It’s Cool To Eat Right” Tattoos.

   Snack-a-licious nutrition and health
Help your employees or volunteers create a sense of camaraderie and eat better by holding random “Bring a healthy snack to share” days. Start by giving out “101 Healthy Snacks” Bookmarks (see page 4) to provide everyone with plenty of suggestions. A few days before you would like to have a snack fest, place a note in a central location announcing your theme. A theme could be fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc. At each “Bring a healthy snack to share” event, place the names of those who brought food into a drawing for prizes, such as “Healthy Snacks For A Healthier You” Snack Packs or Magnetic Snack Clips.

A Focus On Fitness nutrition and health
How well your business does is partly dependent on the wellness of your staff members. Spend some energy on enabling them to improve their physical fitness. Set out a “Fitness For Life” Value Basket so that the items in it can educate and motivate your staff. Hold drawings for gym memberships or gift certificates to sporting goods stores. And make everyone a winner by giving each of your staff members a “Choose Well, Live Well” Duffle Bag which can carry sports equipment or workout clothes.

   Parental Guidance nutrition and health
Although teaching children about smart food choices is worthwhile, parents do most of the meal planning and shopping. Hold an evening seminar for parents. Arrange to have nutritionists speak. Include a section on the dangers of childhood obesity. Pass out “Parents’ Guide To Childhood Obesity: Prevention & Management” Slideguides to everyone, along with Food Smarts Placemats.
