Field Day is a perfect opportunity for students to be active, practice good sportsmanship, and have fun together. Use these Field Day ideas to ensure everyone involved enjoys the day. Then be sure to combine the ideas withproducts from Positive Promotions to make the day even more memorable.
Hula Hoop Mini Flyer Throw
Put students’ aim and precision to the test. Set five hula hoops in a row on the ground about a foot apart. The first in the row should be at least 15 feet from where students stand. Offer each student five chances to throw a Mini Flyer into the hula hoops. Give one point if the student gets a Mini Flyer in the first hoop, two points for the second, and so on. Reward each student who gets one to three points a Field Day Temporary Tattoo. Hand out larger prizes, such as Drawstring Backpacks, for those who get four or more points.
Hoppy Beach Ball
Put a silly spin on a regular race by having students hop to the finish line. Give each student a 12” Beach Ball to squeeze between his or her knees. Then have students hop to the finish line while trying to keep the Beach Balls between their legs. If it pops out, students can wedge it back between their knees and keep going. Let the winner of each race keep a Beach Ball.
Soccer Relay Race
Combine running and soccer into one. Arrange a relay race where the first member of each team kicks a soccer ball down to the end of a field and passes it to a teammate who then kicks it all the way back. Make it a simple, short relay race with teams of two, or it could be longer and more challenging with teams of four. Use Ribbons from the Award Ribbon Assortment Pack to congratulate winners.
Bean Bag Toss Challenge
Check out students’ throwing abilities with a unique bean bag toss. Place flat, circular discs (Mini Flyers or paper plates would work) on the ground in varying distances from the start line. Have students stand at the line and give them five bean bags to toss onto the discs. Hand out Silicone Bracelets like “I [Heart] Field Day" to kids who are able to get at least one bean bag on a disc.
60-Second Jump for Fitness
Encourage kids to get their heart rates up in a fun, noncompetitive activity. Set up a jump rope station. Ask each student how many jumps he or she thinks is possible in 60 seconds. Write down each guess and then count the amount of jumps each child does in a minute. Congratulate every student with a Participant Ribbon.
Water Balloon Balance Race
Put students’ balancing—and running—skills to the test. Fill up water balloons and have each race participant set one on top of a sturdy plate to hold at the start line. Challenge students to keep the balloons on the plates while running to the finish line. Present race winners with Sneaker Tags With Chains.
Bowling for Bottles
Turn Water Bottles into bowling pins for lawn bowling. Fill them up and set 10 into a bowling pin formation. Have students use a soccer ball or volleyball to knock down as many “pins” as possible. Give each student two chances to topple all of the pins. Give those who get a strike or spare a Field Day Water Bottle personalized with your school’s name and Field Day logo.
Keep-Your-Eye-On-The-Ball Fun Run
Have kids pair up and give each couple a 12” Beach Ball. Tell each pair that they have to keep both hands on the Beach Ball at all times during the race. If the Beach Ball drops or if one hand comes off it, the pair must stop and put all hands back on the ball before they can continue. Present winners with T-Shirts customized with your school’s name and our exclusive Field Day logo.
Don’t-Make-A-Splash Relay Race
Split Field Day participants into teams of four and give each team a Water Bottle filled to the brim. Tell all racers that the goal is to keep the water from spilling as they make their way through the relay. Let members of the team with the most water left choose a prize from the Silicone Bracelet Assortment Pack.
Red Light, Green Light, Yellow Light
Put a new spin on the old game of “Red Light, Green Light.” Add a “Yellow Light” part to the game where, instead of running forward, students have to stop, turn around, and walk backward toward the finish. At the end of the game, give participants items from one of the Field Day's Value Packs.
