Did you know polo shirts, or golf shirts, got their start as tennis shirts? In the late 1920s, French tennis star and Grand Slam champion Rene Lacoste became disenchanted with the traditional men's uniform of the time, which required a long-sleeved shirt or sweater, and often a tie. Instead, Lacoste created a short sleeved, soft fabric shirt designed for the comfort, flexibility and movement tennis players needed. After imitators began cropping up, Lacoste added a crocodile emblem to his personal tennis shirts, referring to his nickname, "The Crocodile", which later became the logo of the well-known company he founded in 1933, and still shares his name today.
