Make It All Fun & Games For Your Environmental Services Team

Give your environmental services professionals an opportunity to showcase their expertise in a spirited competition. Use these suggestions to plan a National Healthcare Environmental Services & Housekeeping Week event filled with fun, friendly rivalry, and plenty of prizes from Positive Promotions.

Opening Ceremony

Start the celebration with a procession to introduce the contenders. Have each person dress in a creative costume incorporating the tools of the trade or decorate carts like parade floats. Announce each person by sharing his or her name and number of years of service at your organization. Give awards for the most creative costume, the funniest cart, and more.

Vacuum Race

Contenders must have a keen eye for detail to win this race. Each one has an identical vacuum cleaner and a square of carpet to clean that is covered with confetti. The first person to remove all the confetti from their section of carpet wins.

Dust Mop Relay

Divide contestants into teams of four. At the sound of the starting bell, have the first player from each team use a dust mop to push ping pong balls across the room, around a cone, and back. They tag the next player, who repeats the task, until all four players have completed the course. Give a time penalty for each ball lost in the process. The team with the fastest time wins.

Dressing For Safety

Who can dress up in PPE the fastest? Time contestants as they dress head to toe in personal protective equipment: a disposable isolation gown or coverall properly fastened, gloves, shoe covers, a mask, and goggles. The winner is the first person to put on all the required gear.

Precision Bed Making

Give your competitors a chance to show off their hospital corners and perfectly plumped pillows. Time participants as they transform a pile of folded linens into a properly made bed. Have a team of judges evaluate the finished beds based on speed, accuracy, and skill.

Timed TP Toss

Make two tape lines on the floor at least 15 feet away from the targets: two garbage cans. Place a big box of toilet paper rolls next to each tape line. Challenge contestants to make as many “baskets” as possible in one minute. Give everyone a chance to compete, then have a championship round for the highest-scoring contestants. Present an award to the person who sinks the most.
