National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale's birthday. It was first observed in 1954, marking the 100th anniversary of Nightingale's notable nursing service during the Crimean War. Then, after numerous attempts by the House of Representatives to declare an official event resulted in failure or inaction, President Richard Nixon issued a proclamation in 1974 designating a week for this important honor. Finally, President Ronald Reagan officially proclaimed May 6th as National Nurses Day in 1982, which was later expanded to a full week of festivities. We look forward to working with you for your National Nurses Week events, and all year long!
